The Timeless Cup

Dec 1st - Jan 8th

Announcing December's Global Cup: The Timeless Cup!

The next challenge of the competitive Season begins December 1st! With it comes a new chance to prove your mastery and increase your global and local player ranking! The Timeless Cup - a flashback to the beginning of your Pokémon journey - follows the same basic rules as all Silph Arena global cups, but this month it comes with a special twist! Here's what you need to know:

What Is the Timeless Cup?

During the Cup (December 1st - January 8th), local Silph League communities host and record a special tournament using the free Silph.gg tools. Wins and losses in this local tournament affect your player rank on local and global leaderboards - and may eventually even earn you an invitation to compete at Regionals and even the Continental or World Championships held at the end of the season!

All players are welcome to compete, whether it’s your first tournament or your hundredth! Find a local tournament near you on the Tournament Map!

Timeless Cup Rules

The Timeless Cup has a few special rules (designed to provide added challenge and fun) that differ from standard PvP combat in Pokemon GO:

  • Competitors will bring a team of 6 Pokemon (and register them before the tournament begins). All battle parties used must be comprised of these 6 Pokemon.
  • Matches are played in Great League: only Pokemon up to 1500 CP are permitted in the Cup.
  • The Timeless Cup requires you to pick a single elemental starter Pokémon from the first four generations (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn & Sinnoh), then select the rest of your battle team of six from any of the four generations, but with a list of restrictions:
    • Any Pokémon with Fighting, Normal, Fairy, Flying, Steel or Psychic typing (including dual-typing) may not be used.
    • Legendary and Mythical Pokémon may not be used.
    • Umbreon and Sableye may not be used.
    • Only Pokémon from generations 1 through 4 may be used. Species or forms released in generations 5, 7 and 8 (Unova, Alola and Galar) may not be used.
  • Your starter Pokémon is not subject to the type restrictions and may be any evolution in its family. The rest of your battle team does not need to be from the same generation as your selected starter.
  • What follows is the official list of exactly which species are permitted for use in the Timeless Cup, but remember you may only select one elemental starter!

How to Compete

Registration for the December Cup will become available to local community leaders on November 17th - but Timeless Cups must be scheduled for dates between December 1st and January 8th. (One extra week longer than normal global Cups!) Find a Cup tournament near you via the Tournament Map!

In regards to rankings, competitors can weight one Cup tournament during the Cup duration (even if competing in the first week of January). One may weight both a Timeless Cup and the (yet unannounced) January Cup in the month of January and receive a 10x rank impact for each with no issues.

How Do I Host a Timeless Cup Tournament in My Community?

Can I host multiple Timeless Cups in my community?

Yes. However, only one Timeless Cup will have significant impact in the participant’s Global Ranking. Participants can choose at the start of the Cup if they want that specific Cup to be weighted more heavily than the others.

Does the Timeless Cup have to be hosted on a specific date?

Any date between December 1st, 2019 and January 8th, 2020 is a valid date to hold your community's Timeless Cup. The tournament registration page will not allow registering your Cup for an invalid date or time - so as long as you are able to create your tournament on Silph.gg, you will know it is set for a valid date.

I am a community leader of a Facebook Group (or other platform like Slack, Line, etc). How do I host the Timeless Cup for my community?

How Do I Join a Timeless Cup Tournament in My Community?

If I participate in a Timeless Cup in January, can I still weight a January Cup?

Yes, you can participate in both a weighted Timeless Cup AND a weighted January Cup in January, 2020.

Why is the Timeless Cup (and all non-Cup ranked tournaments) played in Great League?
